Here are some of my favorite photos form covering the 2013 Door County Triathlon. I covered the event for the race for their needs in promoting the event in future years. The course is a half ironman course so the participants swim 1.2 miles, bike 56.3 miles and run 13.1 miles. It’s a fun event to cover from the early morning set up of the course as participants start to arrive to finishers celebrating with sweet corn, pulled pork sandwiches and maybe even a beer in a fun party type atmosphere at the end. The event has the same race director, Sean Ryan, as the Green Bay Cellcom Marathon so it has that same high energy fun atmosphere as that race for both fans and participants.
For this race I covered it as a team effort with Tom Lynn. Tom and I have worked on projects together since he was staffer at the Milwaukee Journal in the early 80s and I was an intern. Tom and I both covered the pre race atmosphere, but then split off approaching the start of the swim from different angles. I waded out in to the water to get up close and personal with the swimmers and Tom worked it with a long lens from a pier out ahead of the racers. After that I stayed in near the start finish area at Murphy Park and worked the transition areas and some of the course while Tom ventured out on to the bike and run courses to capture those views.
Thanks for looking!
