Here are some of my photos from the 2010 American Birkebeiner cross country ski race. More than 8,000 skiers, a new record, were registered for the 37th annual Birkebeiner races. The main race, which begins in Cable, Wisconsin and ends in Hayward, Wisconsin, is the largest ski race in North America The Birkie distance is 50 kilometers for freestyle skiers and 54 kilometers for classic skiers. This years race was won by Italian Fabio Santus with a time of 1 hour, 56 minutes, 58.6 seconds.
This was the first time I’ve covered this event. It was a great deal of fun and a nice change of pace from college basketball and NFL football. It will also make a nice addition to my file of Wisconsin stock photography.
If you would like to see additional photos from the race or from the Barnebirkie kids race on Thursday please visit my online gallery.
Thanks! Enjoy the Birkie photos.
