Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Corporate Web Site Photography.

I just finished up a web site photography project for a large cheese company based here in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  The goal of the shoot was to show the faces of the people that work for the company in their plants and offices.  I photographed in various locations around Green Bay, but also traveled to locations in Georgia, Texas and Germany.  The designer of the web site was looking for a more natural available light look.  Challenges to keep in mind as we shot were not showing the names of any of their clients on packaging or giving away any “trade secrets” on the production floor.  The designer and the client are very happy with the results and so am I.  Here is a sampling of some of my favorite photos.

Wisconsin Industrial Portrait Photographer

Here are a few of my favorite environmental portraits from a web site project I recently completed for a Green Bay area paper products company.  It was a nice change of pace from the healthcare photography that I have been busy with lately.  Shooting portraits like this on a working production floor comes with it’s own set of challenges, but I think we did a nice job of working around them.

How to photograph your own wedding. Green Bay Wedding Photographer.

Today marks the one year anniversary of one of the toughest things I’ve had to cover, but also the most joyous .  Coming from a photojournalism background, you always want to document the major events in your life.  It was tough documenting this event because I was a big part of it.  The other person in this event was understanding enough to let me have my camera at my side most of the day.  Yes, the major event was my wedding day.  A year ago I got married to the greatest girl ever.   We hired Green Bay’s best wedding photographer to be the main photographer–Turba Photography.  I may be a tad prejudiced because Jerry Turba became my brother-in-law that day.

So here are a few of my favorite shots of the day from my point of view.  I even managed to get myself into a few.

Vincent Award.

Last week I was honored to have won first place in photography at the “A Mirror of Our Culture: Sport & Society in America,” conference co-hosted by the Green Bay Packers and St. Norbert College. The award, a Vincent Award, named after legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi, is going to look great in a prominent place at the Roemsted.  The photo of a broken up pass in the end zone at a Green Bay Packers’ game also was a winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

Other Side Of the Camera.

It’s not often I’m on the other side of the camera, but here is a shot of my wife Judy and I taking in a Brewers game at Miller Park.  Morry Gash of the AP caught this shot of us watching some right field action while enjoying a field level party with our friends from The Roberts Group.  Judy and I are the ones on the right side of the photo.

Thanks Morry for the great shot and thanks TRG for the great night!Brewers-game
