Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Thanks for looking!

Annual Report Medical Photography For Midwest Healthcare Client.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from an annual report photography project for a Midwest healthcare ad agency at a hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  The designer had some great ideas for the annual report and some specific photos in mind.  It was a fun and challenging shoot and I came away with some portfolio worthy photos.  Plus it was a nice change of pace from all the sports I’ve been shooting lately.

Wisconsin – Green Bay vs. South Dakota State University In Women’s Soccer.

I don’t get to photograph that many college soccer games, but when I do I greatly enjoy it.  On Sunday I covered Wisconsin – Green Bay vs. South Dakota State University in D1 college women’s soccer.  The game was scoreless until the final minutes when South Dakota scored a goal.

I covered South Dakota State University during my ten years as a newspaper photographer in South Dakota and I graduated from Wisconsin – Green Bay so that made this game a little more special.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the game.  Thanks for looking!

Senior Portrait Photography in Door County, Wisconsin.

Variety in assignments is very important to me.  I love shooting anything from models playing the slots in casinos for gaming clients to doctors at hospitals for healthcare annual reports to sports for colleges and wire services.  I’ve always shied away from wedding and senior portrait photography.  Earlier this summer one of my best friends asked me if I wanted to take his daughters senior portraits.  The last time I shot Emily’s portraits she was about 4 or 5, I had just started my freelance photography business in Green Bay and I took the photos in black and white with a film camera.  Times, people and technology have changed in those fourteen years.  I really enjoyed being a senior portrait photographer for a day.  It’s tough not to get great senior portraits when you have the amazing backgrounds of Door County and a very visually friendly and cooperative subject like Emily.

Who knows…maybe in the near future,  I’ll start looking for senior portrait and wedding work instead of shying away from it.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think.

Judy Rides Her Pony.

Here are a selection of photos of my wife Judy at her Tuesday night English riding class at the Wisconsin Equestrian Center in De Pere, Wisconsin.  Judy grew up on a farm in central Wisconsin and  is still a farm girl at heart.  She loves animals and horses are no exception.  We are currently house hunting and any property that lists a horse barn is a must visit.  I hope you enjoy the pictures of Judy having fun as much as I enjoyed shooting them.

Thanks for looking!

Photos from Green Bay Packers vs Indianapolis Colt NFL Football Game.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the NFL preseason football game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin on August 28, 2010.  The Packers won the game 59-24.  I seemed to be in the wrong end of the field for some of the better action, but I was pleased with what I got, especially the non action photos.  I’m looking forward to the regular season starting in a few short weeks, games that matter and better light.
