Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Thanks for looking!

Photos From The Ron Johnson Victory Party.

For the first 10 years of my career I was a daily newspaper photographer.  When I left the daily newspaper business back in 1996 to pursue a commercial photography career it was difficult to walk away from the excitement of some of the assignments I covered during those newspaper days.  I still keep one foot in the world of sport photography to feed that need and I still cover a few news event each year with most of those being political events.  Tuesday night I was assigned to cover the election night party for Ron Johnson in the Wisconsin senate race.  Republican Ron Johnson defeated three-term Democrat Russ Feingold to become the state’s first Republican senator in 18 years.

Things have changed a great deal since my early newspaper days in the mid 80s.  Back in those days we shot our photos on 35 mm color slide film and processed the film back at the paper in what could be described as a high tech picnic cooler.  From the time the candidate took the stage to the time you final handed your image to the copy editor w

as hopefully under an hour and half.  If you didn’t have that amount of time to meet your deadline you took the photos in black and white and it still took about 45 minutes if the location of the event wasn’t to far from the paper.  Last night I was able to feed the wire service I was working for with five photos as the candidate was still wading through the audience shaking hands with the supporters.

Here are a few of my photos from the event.  Thanks for looking!

Photos of surfing on Lake Michigan near Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Today should have been an office day, but I couldn’t pass on the chance to shoot surfing on Lake Michigan during one of the biggest Midwest wind storms of my lifetime.  Waves on Lake Michigan reached over 20 feet in spots.  Here are some of my favorite photos of a group of surfers on Lake Michigan near Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  If you would like to see additional photos please visit my archive.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs The Minnesota Vikings 2010 NFL Football Game

Sunday night was a wild and crazy night as the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings did battle at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Longtime Packers quarterback Brett Favre returned to Lambeau Field for the second time wearing a Vikings jersey.  Favre is in the midst of an NFL investigation and in the middle of a down season.  The fans rode Brett more then a little with signs and boos.  Brett walked off Lambeau Field with his head down and from my vantage point mist in his eyes after loosing to his old team 28-24.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the game.  Thanks for looking.

Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary.

Here are a few of my favorite photos that I recently did for Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary. Happily Ever After is Northeast Wisconsin’s only true no-kill facility for cats and dogs and is completely staffed by volunteer manpower.  Judy and I are true believers in their mission and are always willing to help out, but the fact that Judy and I are allergic to cats keeps our support to photography and the occasional check (I’m also allergic to tigers and have a fun story about that). If you would like to learn more about HEA or to adopt a dog or cat please visit their web site.  They are always looking for volunteers and donations.  This Saturday they are having their biggest fundraiser of the year, a pet costume contest.  Here is a link if you would like to find out more about the fundraiser.

Thanks for looking and hopefully you can help HEA continue their mission.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs The Miami Dolphins 2010 NFL Football Game

It was another tough overtime lose for the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  The Miami Dolphins won with a field goal in overtime.  Here are a few of my favorite photos.  I think my photos show that it was a tough day for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  Next up for the Packers is the Minnesota Vikings and Brett Favre at Lambeau Field next Sunday night.

After Sunday’s game the still photographers gathered at the Packers G at midfield to take a knee in honor of long time Packer’s photographer Vern Biever who passed away earlier in the week at the age of 87.
