Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Photos of Protesting at the Wisconsin State Capitol.

My schedule took me to Madison, Wisconsin on Wednesday, March 3, 2011, for reasons other then taking photos of the labor protests at the capital.  Opponents to the Wisconsin Governor Scott Walkers bill to eliminate collective bargaining rights for many state workers have protested at the state Capitol for over two weeks with crowd reaching close to 100,000 on the weekends.  Wednesday was a rather mild day for the protesting, but being an editorial photographer it was tough to be that close and not stop in and take photos for a few hours.  Here are a few of my favorite shots.

Door County, Wisconsin Winter Lighthouse Photography. Door County Stock Photography

This past weekend my wife Judy and I (that’s her in the first photo) went to Door County, Wisconsin for a little weekend getaway.  Door County is one of our favorite places during all four seasons.  Our first stop was the Sturgeon Bay ship canal on Lake Michigan.  Recent high winds and cold temps created some very cool ice formations on the catwalk going out to the North Pier headlight.  I’ve visited this lighthouse many times during summer and winter to take photos, but I would have to say this is my favorite set of lighthouse photos thanks to the ice.

I was happy with the photos I took with Judy, but I really wanted some blue sky to make the ice pop.  Luckily Monday was a blue sky day and I was free so I trekked back up there.  I spent most of the afternoon watching the light turn from a cool, high noon blue to a golden hour warm just before sunset.

I hope you like the photos as much as I do.

Colorado Ski Weekend

Here are some of my favorite photos from a long Colorado ski weekend Judy and I just took.  The trip included a couple of days skiing at Breckenridge with my brother John, niece Elke and John’s girlfriend Cheryl.  John lives in Boulder so we also spent some time there and checked out a 100+ year old home that he is rebuilding.

Photos from the”Return to Titletown’ celebration at Lambeau Field.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the “Return to Titletown’ celebration on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  A sellout crowd of 56,000 fans filled Lambeau Field in single digit temps to welcome home the  Super Bowl winning Green Bay Packers.   The Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV.  It was a great deal of fun covering the Packers this season on their Super Bowl run and I hope that shows in the posts to my blog.  Looking forward to next season.
