Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Photos From The NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Midwest Regional.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Midwest Regional at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis. this past weekend.  North Dakota defeated Denver to advance to the Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minnesota next weekend.

I was happy with the action photos I came away with even though I only photography hockey every few years.  The regional comes back to Green Bay in 2012 and hopefully I will find myself photographing the event again.

Winter Transportation Photography • Transportation Stock Photography

Last week Green Bay, Wisconsin got hit with one of it’s biggest snow storms in history.  Almost 18 inches of snow fell over two days.  I took the snow fall as a chance to refresh my collection of winter transportation stock photography.  If every snow fall could be as photogenic as this snow fall I would be up for winter year around.  I think my favorite photos are the ones of the parked cars almost totally covered in snow.  I’m sure the workers at Dorsch Ford Kia didn’t think it was as pretty as I did.  Here are a few of my favorite photos.

Emma

Judy and I are doing a little dog sitting this week for some good friends of ours while they are on spring break.  Emma has been a lot of fun to have around. I’ve been taking my camera with as I take her on walks in the record snow storm that we got this week.  Here are a few of my favorite shots.   Maybe I could become Green Bay, Wisconsin’s next great pet photographer.  Maybe when I retire from commercial and editorial work.

Photos From The United States Championship Cheese Contest • Wisconsin Documentary Photojournalist

This past week I had the opportunity to cover the 2011 United States Championship Cheese Contest in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  This is the second time I’ve covered the event.  The best thing about covering the event is I get to sample some of the best cheeses in the United States.  Wisconsin is a hot bed of cheese making and the cheese makers from Wisconsin always do well in the judging and this year was no exception.  The three top awards went to Wisconsin cheese makers with the top award going to Katie Hedrich of LaClare Farms Specialties of Chilton, Wisconsin for her evalon cheese.  Evalon is a goat’s milk hard cheese and has to be tasty to beat out the parmesan from Sartori Foods of Plymouth, Wisconsin that was the runner up and took the top honor at the last US championship.  Here are some of my favorite story telling photos.
