Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Photos from the UWGB vs UIC Softball game.

In sports photography, I’m a big fan of being able to see the faces of the athletes in the photos.  This past Friday I photographed the Wisconsin Green Bay vs. the University of Illinois Chicago women’s softball game on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Green Bay.  I wasn’t all that happy with the action shots I got, but I did like the expressions on the faces I was able to capture.  Here are a few of my favorite photos.

St. Norbert College Crew Club | Higher Education Photography

Spring hasn’t been the best here in Wisconsin this year, but Friday morning the sun came out and the winds calmed down.  It made for a great morning for taking photos of the crew club at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.  I’ve paddled the stretch of the Fox River  between the De Pere dam and the Little Rapids dam many times and my wife Judy and I even had our wedding reception along that area of the river two years ago.   Here are a few of my favorite photos from this higher education photography shoot that will be used by the college.

The tattoos of Green Bay Packers Daryn Colledge.

Last fall I was assigned by Rebel Ink magazine to shoot photos for a story on Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Daryn Colledge.  I wasn’t able to post the photos till the story recently came out in the magazine.  Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Shooting this assignment was a great deal of fun.  Daryn has a great relationship with Rick at Tattoo’s by Rick in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Rick has done a great deal of work on current and former Packers players and has a wall of autographs including one from Daryn.  It was also nice to meet the non football side of player.  We talked about traveling in Europe, growing up in Alaska, going to college in Boise and even photography.

The tattoo I liked best was the simple tattoo he has of his wife’s initials on his ring finger.  I wonder if he will wear his Super Bowl ring or get a tattoo of that.

Photographer Promo Card | Midwest Healthcare Photographer

I have a new set of promo cards that I’ll be sending out.  Here is the first one.  A special thanks to Dave and Keenan of Gagnon Creative Group, Inc in De Pere, Wisconsin.  Dave and Keenan keep rather busy working on projects in the marine industry, but they took the time to design this card for me and I’m very grateful for that.  The first card is more aimed at clients looking for a Midwest healthcare photographer.

Excited to see what kind of response we get to the card and if people use the QR code.  I have the QR code linked to a campaign in Google Analytics so I will be able to track the success.

If you think your the type of person that should be on my mailing list please let me know.

Thanks!

Higher Education Photography in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Recently I was asked by Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin to create a photo that would be used as the cover for their magazine along with a selection of photos to be used inside the magazine with the story.  I was excited to do the shoot since I love photographing people on location and I love higher education photography.   Liz Boutelle the Art Director for campus publications did a great job in communicating her vision to me and created a dynamic layout.  Below are some of my favorite shots from the assignment and the finished cover design.

With the weather finally starting to look like spring here in Wisconsin, I’m looking forward to doing more Midwest campus photography.

Thanks for looking.
