Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Restaurant Photography at A’Bravo Bistro & Wine Bar.

I was recently contacted by A’Bravo Bistro & Wine Bar, one of my favorite restaurants in the Green Bay, Wisconsin area, to create a selection of photos that they will be using for a variety of purposes.  My wife Judy and I have had some great dinners there and I have had some very nice business lunches.  Here are a few of my favorite photos that show off the food, the decor and the fun the customers have at the restaurant.  I’d like to thank the great models that helped us with the shoot.

The Kohler International Challenge at Road America.

I don’t think anyone would call me a car guy, but I do appreciate the visual beauty of a fine car.  This past weekend Road America near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin hosted an annual event that I always try and make it down for.  The Kohler International Challenge with Brian Reman is an amazing weekend of vintage racing that draws cars, drivers and spectators from around the world.  As fun as it is to be at the track I enjoy the Concourse d’Elegance for Race Cars that they have on Friday night in Elakhart Lake and the Concourse d’Elegance for Sports Cars on Saturday night even more.

This year I was only able to make it down for the event on Friday, but still had fun and came away with a few photos I’m proud of.  The thunder the muscle cars from the 70s like the Ford Mustang GT350s and Dodge Challengers make as they come into Elkhart for the concourse event is very cool and to see cars like Ford GT40s, Porsche 356 Speedsters, cars that raced at LeMans, Indy and other historic races is very impressive.  I’m not sure I did justice to how special of an event this is, but here are a few of my favorite shots.  I was even able to capture a little bumping and grinding racing between a Ford GT 350 and GT500 that resulted in one car spinning out and kissing the wall.

Our New Pup Chica.

My wife Judy and I had been waiting to get a dog till we moved into a new home that would be better for raising one.  We’ll we moved into a new home earlier this summer so it was time to make an addition to the household.  Welcome Chica our new 9 month old pup that we adopted from Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary.  I’ve been taking photos to help out the no-kill shelter for a couple of years and had always said we should adopt one of their dogs.   We are very excited to have her around and will be ever more excited once she is house broken.

Gaming Photography at Mountaineer Casino and Resort.

May was a crazy month for me.  The first three weeks of the month I was on the road for a corporate client in Missouri, Arizona and California.  The last shoot of the month was at the Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort in Chester, West Virginia.  I have a great client, Gaga Marketing, based out of Baltimore, that I have been shooting for since 2003.  They send me out on cool casino shoots a couple times a year.  Mark Elmore, the creative mind behind these shoots, is amazing to work with and our personalities work great together.  Here are a few of my favorite shots from the two day shoot.  We had a great group of six models from The Talent Group modeling agency out of Pittsburgh / Cleveland and hair and makeup stylist, Dresden Buras, did a great job on making them camera ready and providing that extra set of eyes during the shoot to make sure everyone looked their best.  A big thanks to my assistant and friend Brad ‘Bdog” Allen for taking time out of his busy schedule to make the shoot a success.

I always tell people that for me to be a happy photographer I need to have a variety of things to shoot.  Casino photography / gaming photography / resort photography  is one of the types of shooting that fills a special shooting need for me.  I get to work with great models, inject maximum excitement and work my lighting magic, but it can also be a tremendous challenge working on an active casino floor.  Everyone on this shoot from the electrician that helped us find power on the gaming floor to the marketing department to the food and beverage manager / staff made the shoot a success and I owe them a huge big thanks.

Green Bay, Wisconsin Lifestyle Promo Photography Shoot.

I recently did a lifestyle photo shoot as a promo piece for a local Green Bay, Wisconsin model, Heather Baker, and a local hair and makeup stylist, Jai Schmidt of Refashioned by Jai.  A good friend and local graphic designer Dave Gagnon was nice enough to let us use his home as a very cool environment for the photos.  The shoot was a great deal of fun and I think turned out some very nice promo and portfolio work for all three of us.
