Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Stitching Photos Together• What to do when your client wants a photo 16 feet wide.

Earlier this week I was contact by one of my higher education photography clients, St. Norbert College, in De Pere, Wisconsin, to create a shot for them of their campus just after sunrise from across the Fox River.  They had a shot from about 10 years ago that they liked and wanted to use, but it wasn’t of high enough quality to meet the demands of how this photo will be displayed.  The main purpose of this shot is to a 16 foot wide by 5 foot tall image behind the front desk at their new Welcome Center.  I have some large file cameras, but this shot was going to require something in the range of 370 megabytes for output.  I was able to get a shot that large by actually taking five photos of this scene and stitching them together in Photoshop CS5.  The client also wanted to show some activity of the crew team in the shot.  The crew boats in this shot are actually from two other photos with the same lens, same location and same lighting which made it very easy to drop them in.

I was very happy with how the shot turned out and so was the client.  We couldn’t have asked for a better morning for the photo shoot.  The final installation should be up in a few week and I hope to post a shot of it then.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs Arizona Cardinals 2011 NFL Football Game.

The NFL football season is under way.  Here are a few of my favorite photos from the Green Bay Packers first home preseason game of the 2011 season at Lambeau Field.  The Packers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 28-20.  The Packers won the Super Bowl last year, so expectations are high for this year’s team.  Check back throughout season as I blog about my favorite photos from each home game.

Preseason games can be a little boring to watch and a little boring for a sports photographer.  Before the game started, I looked for some features as I entered the stadium and was happy with a couple that I found.  The vibe outside of Lambeau wasn’t as electric as it can be before a regular season game.  I did find one of my favorite features as I headed to our work area: a photo of a vendor wearing a Rodgers jersey, just taking in the empty stadium.  As for action photos, it was a little meek.  The starters only played a few series and then it was musical chairs of young players trying to make the team.

2011 Green Bay Packers Family Night Scrimmage.

Here are some of my favorite photos from a storm shortened Green Bay Packers Family Night Scrimmage.  The night started with great weather, but ended short when a severe storm headed towards Lambeau Field and fans and players were asked to take cover.  After an hour plus rain delay fans were allowed back into the bowl and the night was topped off with fireworks for the wet fans still in attendance.

I wish I would have had more time to shoot action of the players, but I was happy with some of the portraits I was able to make of some of the key players like Charles Woodson, Clay Matthews, Aaron Rodgers and Jermichael Finley.

Photos From 2011 Green Bay Packers Training Camp

The 2010 Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers have taken to the practice field in Green Bay, Wisconsin to start their 2011 training camp.  The city of Green Bay really loves their team and that can be seen in the smiles of the kids that share their bikes with the players to help them get to the practice field.  I think this is one of the cooler traditions here in Green Bay and always make for great pictures.  It doesn’t matter to a young boy or girl if the player who they are lending their bike to is one of the Packers stars or even if he will make the team just that he is wearing the green and gold uniform.  The players also have great fun with it and don’t always make it easy on themselves by picking tiny bikes they can barely fit on.  Here are some of my favorite photos  of the kids sharing their bikes, players signing autographs and even a few from the practice field.

The Dog Days of Summer.

I promise I won’t become the type of blogger that just posts cute picture of his dog.  In between spending time with Judy this weekend and doing some much needed editing I pulled out some gear to document the life of our new pup Chica.  We also have another family dog visiting for the week while her family is on a summer vacation.  Photographing Chica sure sharpens one skills on maintaining shadow detail.

Thanks for looking and I promise limit my dog blogs.
