Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs. New York Giants Playoff NFL Football Game at Lambeau Field.

Sunday, January 15, 2012 just wasn’t the Green Bay Packers day as the New York Giants defeated them 37-20 in the divisional round of the NFL football playoffs.  The Packers had the home field advantage for the playoffs after going 15-1 in the regular a season.

I had a bad feeling the day of the game and even had a dream the night before the game that the Packers would lose.  After seeing the high scoring games earlier in the season it was tough to see the Packers have such a tough time scoring and an even tougher time to see them cough up the ball as often as they did.

I was hoping to see the Packers make another trip to the Super Bowl and have a chance to be witness to all the excitement that bring to Green Bay, but it just wasn’t meant to be.  I guess I better wax up the skis because I’m going to have some free weekends coming up.

Regardless, the Green Bay Packers had a great season and it sure was a fun season to be a sports photographer in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Green Bay Packers Beat The Detroit Lions 45-41 In A Shootout.

With the Packers already having clinched home field advantage for the NFL playoff Packers starters like Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson took the final game of the regular season off at Lambeau Field on Sunday, January, 1, 2012.  Packers second string quarterback Matt Flynn put together a career and record setting day with six touchdown passes and 480 yards of passing.  The Packers won the game in a shoot out with the Detroit Lions 45-41.

My day started by looking for some fan features like the shot of Packers fan Jeff Kahlow tailgating with his frozen Lambeau Field hat.  It was odd to see Packers players like Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthew wearing street clothes and smiles as they watched their team go through drills before the game.

I was happy with the action shots I got including the photos of a 15 year old fan who ran out on to the field getting taken down by security and Packers Brad Jones.  I was even happier that it wasn’t as windy as the weather man had predicted and that I was able to keep warm thanks to gortex and hand warmers.

The Packers will host a second round game in the playoffs on Sunday, January 15, 2012, and I’ll be there.  We won’t know who the Packers will play till after wild card weekend if over.

Thanks for looking!

Green Bay Wisconsin Photographer Mike Roemer • Best of 2011

2011 was an exciting year to be a Green Bay, Wisconsin photographer.  Covering the Green Bay Packers in their Super Bowl run was exciting and made for some memorable photos.  The D1 NCAA women’s basketball team that I cover for Wisconsin – Green Bay also had a great season and made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.
My sports photography is my highest profile work and helped bring up to 4,000 visitors in one day to my blog, but my photography goes much further than that.   I traveled to the East Coast as a gaming and casino photographer and to the West Coast as a manufacturing photographer. Combined,  I spent over a month in Missouri working as a healthcare photographer and an industrial photographer.
The past year was also a great year for my wife, Judy, and me.  We moved into a new home with an amazing wooded ravine with almost 3 acres and we adopted a happy and playful black lab collie mix from a no kill shelter.  You can see a picture of our pup, Chica, cooling down in her pool on a warm summer’s day in the gallery.
So what’s my favorite shot from the past year?  I would say it’s a tie between a photo of a way-too-happy Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt greeting President Obama or a photo of three police officers watching in amazement as Packers fans Charlie Donner and Jeff Knott show up for a Packers game with very real looking, exposed fake butts.  But the shot that gives me the warmest feeling?  The one of Chica in her pool.
So, here are some of my favorite photos from 2011.  Thanks for checking out my work and I’m looking forward to showing you more in 2012.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers Christmas Day Game vs The Chicago Bears.

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 35-21 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay Wisconsin in an NFL football game on Christmas Day to lock up home field advantage as the number one seed in the NFL play-offs and to go 14-1 on the 2011 season.

I had an okay game, but not a great game.  I was blocked on what could have been a few nice shots as players got upended, but that’s the way it goes.  Aaron Rodgers had a career high five passes for touchdowns.  I long for the excitement that Brett Favre would show when he threw a touchdown.  Aaron doesn’t look much different when things go good or bad.  Aaron is calm, cool and collected at all times.

Thanks for looking at my photos from the game!

Happy Holidays From RoemerPhoto!

I try to pre-visualize my photos.  I had been pre-visualizing Judy’s and my Christmas photo for months, but the lack of snow trashed all my ideas.  Here is a little something Judy and I came up with for us and our new pup Chica.

Happy holidays to everyone from RoemerPhoto!
