Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Thanks for looking!

Convocation at St Norbert College • Wisconsin Higher Education Photographer.

This past Sunday my assignment for one of my higher education photography clients was to tell the story of convocation at St Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.  During the convocation the school would welcome their 600 incoming freshman, the class of 2016, to the school.  St Norbert has a beautiful campus and I’m always excited to shoot there.  I was a little worried when I woke up Sunday morning to a driving rain, but it cleared off a few hours before things started allowing my assistant and I to set up four remote camera to capture stills, some video and even a time lapse to compliment what I would be shooting with the two cameras around my neck.

The event started with the Mass of the Holy Spirit before the 600 freshman walked in two lines as faculty dressed in their academic regalia lined the walkway to the lawn in front of Main Hall.  St Norbert President Thomas Kunkel was waiting there to greet the students and to ring the Green Knight victory bell as the official start of a new academic year.  Before heading off to to a barbecue along the Fox River with a band and fireworks the students came up to the bell to touch it for good luck at St Norbert.

I was happy with the photos I got on Sunday.  I captured some real genuine moments and I think I truly did tell the story of the day.

Thanks for taking a look!

Desserts at a’Bravo Bistro and Wine Bar • Green Bay Food Photographer.

I think of myself as a people photographer.   Most of my work is of people on location for commercial, advertising and editorial clients.  Last summer I was hired by a great restaurant, a’Bravo Bistro and Wine Bar,here in the Green Bay area to shoot a series of photos for various marketing purposes.  Most of that photography was based around people enjoying the restaurant and the photos helped them launch a very successful marketing campaign.  A few weeks ago I was contacted again by the restaurant to shoot a series of dessert photos created by their new pastry chef.  I’ve always said that for me to be a happy photographer I need to have a variety of things to shoot and the occasional food photography helps make this photographer happy.

Here are few of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Green Bay Packers vs Cleveland Browns NFL Football Photos

Here are some of my favorite photos from covering the Green Bay Packers vs Cleveland Brown NFL preseason football game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Thursday night August 16, 2012.  It was the first home preseason game for the Packers and the first chance for many fans to see the work that has been done on the stadium.  The first shot I went after when I got to the stadium was a feature to show the expansion including the new Diamond Vision screens.  Luckily one of the Cleveland Browns players helped me out by doing some stretch way before anyone else got out onto the field.  After that I headed out into the parking lot to get shots of the football fans enjoying an almost perfect summer night in Green Bay.  To bad the Packers couldn’t have made it a perfect night by playing better, but they will once the regular season starts in a few short week.

Free To Be Creative Without Restrictions Or Expectations.

On Friday night I had an editorial assignment to cover the Green bay Packers intrasquad scrimmage Family Fun Night at Lambeau Field.  I’ve covered this Green Bay Packers event a number in the past and have been very happy with the photos I came away with. On Friday night they limited were we could shoot from which limited the amount of shots we could get.  Before the Packers took to the field they let a couple of youth football teams play in front of the 55,000 some fans.  It was refreshing to see the excitement the young athletes faces and it was refreshing to be able to try and make visually interesting photos and not be worried if I was getting an isolation full length photo of this or that player.  So here is my favorite photo from the night.  I like it, but maybe others think it’s just average.  I think the reason I like it is for those few minutes that night I was free to be creative without restrictions or expectations.

Mike
