Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Thanks for looking!

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs New Orleans Saints NFL Football game.

Here are some of my favorite sports photos from the Green Bay Packers vs New Orleans Saints NFL football game that I shot at Lambeau Field on Sunday September 30, 2012 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  The Packers defeated the Saints 27-28 to go 2-2 on the first half of the season.  One of the story lines of the games was the NFL referees being back after the lockout with the NFL ended shortly after the Packers lost to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night in a game that ended with a very controversial call by the replacements referees.  If you ask a Packers fan the regular referees didn’t do all that great of job during this game.  After a few of the call I was planning how I would cover the fan riot at the end of the game if the Packers lost.  Luckily the Packers won and life can go on.

Lifestyle Photography For St. Norbert College • Higher Education Photographer

A few weeks ago I was contacted by one of my higher education photography clients, St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin,  to shoot a series of lifestyle photos of their students interacting with the community for their new web site.   After a meeting with Drew Van Fossen, the schools director of communication and design, we decided to focus our photography around the Wednesday night Farmers’ Market on Broadway, the Green Bay City Deck and Lambeau Field.  Drew and his staff is always great on putting together a great group of good looking, energetic, diverse, cooperative and energetic students for these shoots.  I needed to give the students very little direction to create these photos, I just kind of need to hang out with them.  They all got together great and were always smiling a laughing.

While showing the students in these environments I also needed to keep in mind not to show non students in a way that we would need to get a model release from them.  I was able to do this by shooting with longer lenses and a shallow depth of field.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Buddy The K9 Therapist • Healthcare Photographer

I recently completed an annual report photo project for Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missourri.  Here is my favorite photo from the project.  The photo is of Dr. Heidi Hunter and her 4-year-old golden retriever Buddy.  Dr Hunter, who is the medical director of inpatient rehab at Saint Francis uses Buddy for pet therapy.  Pet therapy is known to decrease blood pressure, decrease anxiety, help with motivation, and decrease pain.  I thought the photo captured a nice moment between the doctor and K9 therapist.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears NFL Football game.

I enjoy covering any Green Bay Packers game at Lambeau Field, but covering the annual Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears game is always a little more special and this year having it be a prime-time Thursday night game made it even more exciting.  The Packers won the game 23-10.  Packers Clay Matthews had 3.5 sacks and gave us photographers some visually friendly sack celebrations.

I started my day looking for a different pre-game feature and was very happy when I found members of the Packers drumline warming up in an empty Lambeau Field.  I also felt that I was able to put a nice finish to the story of the game with the mid-field meeting of the two-quarterbacks after the game and then Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers running off the field and tossing a wristband into the stands.

Thanks for taking a look!

Photos From The Green Bay Packers San Francisco 49ers NFL Football Game.

The Green Bay Packers lost their home NFL football opener at Lambeau Field on Sunday September 9th, 2012 to the San Francisco 49ers 30-22.  It sure wasn’t the way the Packers or their fans wanted to start the season, but the 49ers are one of the better teams in the NFL.

As a sports photographer I’m always excited to start shooting regular season NFL games after almost falling asleep covering a couple preseason games.  It was also fun to see how the light and sound is different at Lambeau after the additions to the stadium.

I was happy with my photos from the games.  I think I told the story of the game and caught a couple unexpected moments.  Here are some of my favorite photos from the game.
