Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles NFL Football Game • November 10, 2013

The Green Bay Packers lost their second home game in six days at Lambeau Field on Sunday Novemeber 10, 2013.  The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Packers 27-13.  This was the first time the Packers lost two consecutive home games since 2008.  In the first game the Packers lost to the Chicago Bears and also lost quarterback Aaron Rodgers to an injury.  In the second game the Packers lost backup quarterback Seneca Wallace to a groin injury.  The Packers have only started four different quarterbacks in the last 20 years and will start their third quarterback of the season next week when they face the New York Giants.

I was happy with the way I told the story of the day.  I got a fun tailgate feature, some interesting detail shots before the game and most of the key plays during the game and then a nice celebration by the Eagles at the end of the game and Green Bay Packers quarterback Scott Tolzien with Aaron Rodgers watching helplessly in the final minutes of the game.

For the past 18 years I’ve shot the Packers from the north end zone.  Ever year of so in late fall we get a game with sun that bounces off the skybox windows to give plays in the north red zone an interesting fill with a dark background.  I love the light on Philadelphia Eagles outside linebacker Connor Barwin as he sacks Scott Tolzien,

Here are some of my favorite photos!

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears NFL Football Game • November 4, 2013

The Green Bay Packers have been in the next man up mode all year long with the rash of injuries that have plagued the team.  Monday night during their game against their divisional rival the Chicago Bears they got hit hard by the injury bug when quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a shoulder injury early in the first quarter.  It was hard to keep calm and carry on when Seneca Wallace needed to replace Rodgers.  The Bears who were also with their first string quarterback, Jay Cutler, due to injury defeated the Packers 27-20.

During the play that knocked out Rodgers my shooting position was ahead of the line of scrimmage and I only got off one frame before my view was blocked.  Luckily the other photographers on my team had a better view of the play and we had ourselves covered.

It was tough to see the MVP quarterback walk off the field in his street clothes.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the game.

Wisconsin Fitness Photographer • Exercise Photography at Cream City CrossFit

A few weeks ago I got a call about doing a photo shoot on a CrossFit gym in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  I’m an old school exercise guy so I didn’t know a lot about CrossFit, but became very excited about the shoot when I learned more about this fitness craze that’s gaining popularity.  CrossFit is an exercise program that offers a full-body workout combining cardio, weight lifting, gymnastics and core training to prepare the body for the unexpected.  The high intensity workout is extremely varied and is all about getting the most out of what you put in to it. A CrossFit workout will vary greatly and most workouts are between 45 minutes and an hour.

For this fitness photo shoot, we wanted to make the photos as dynamic as the exercises through creative lighting and taking advantage of the high intensity exercise done by the athletes.  We cast the actual people that work out at the gym for the photos and I couldn’t be happier with the quality of subjects we had.  Everyone was very cooperative and helped us make some dynamic fitness photography.  A special thanks to hair, makeup and sweat artist Jai Schmidt of Refashioned by Jai for making the athletes look so great for the photos.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs Cleveland Browns NFL Football Game • October 21, 2013

On a cold and rainy late fall night the Green Bay Packers defeated the Cleveland Browns 31-13 at Lambeau Field in an NFL football game in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Sunday October, 20th ,2013.  The Packers continue to “Keep Calm and Carry On” as coach Mike McCarthy would say, even though they have a number of key players out of the lineup due to injury.  The Packers suffered another set back on Sunday when tight end Jermichael Finley was carted off the field with a neck injury.  Here are my photos from covering the game.

With Sunday’s win the Packers find themselves in first place in the division with two key divisional games coming up in the next two weeks in prime time against the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears who are also dealing with injuries to key players.

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions NFL Football Game • October 6, 2013

The Green Bay Packers win over the Detroit Lions in an NFL football game was a game of field goals for the most part.  Field goals don’t make for great pictures.  Each team scored one touchdown and both of those were scored in the opposite end zone then the one I cover.  For the most part I was happy with the photos I got.  Lots of leaping receivers make and not making circus type catches.  The Packers once again struggled in the red zone, but it did give kicker Mason Crosby an opportunity to kick five field goals, tying a team record.  With the Packers 22-9 win over the Detroit it continues another streak, the Lions haven’t won for 23 straight games in Wisconsin.
