Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Milwaukee Wisconsin Healthcare Photographer • Photos for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

Here are some of my favorite photos from a healthcare photography project we recently completed for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.  We shot at their locations in the Milwaukee area and Neenah, Wisconsin.  After a stretch of industrial photography projects and March Madness basketball, it was great to collaborate again with Adam Nye, the Creative Supervisor from the hospital.  Matt Ludtke, my lighting assistant on the shoot and hair and makeup stylist, Jai Schmidt helped us keep a very natural and real feel to the photos.  It also helped a great deal that we had some very cute kids to work with and friendly and cooperate nurses that came across great on camera.

Photos From The 2016 Girls Wisconsin State Basketball Championships • Wisconsin Sports Photographer

I only shoot high school basketball once a year so when I do it I like to overdose on it. Here are my favorite photos for the 2016 Wisconsin Girls State Basketball Championships at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  I shot 15 games in three days.  I always enjoy shooting this tournament because of the display of raw emotion.  At the end of a hard fought NFL football game the players shake hands and its seems like most of them don’t even care if they won or lost.  It’s just another day at the office for them.  When these girls walk off that court they are wearing their emotions on their sleeves.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the tournament.

Green Bay Wisconsin Commercial Photographer • Wisconsin Industrial Photographer • Mike Roemer’s Best of 2015

I’m a little late to this party, but here are my favorite photos from 2015.  Most photographers like to get their best of gallery out before the end of the year, but I like to think my best shots are still coming so I don’t close the book until the last minute.  So, here are my favorite photos from the year.  The year wasn’t too different than most – a nice mix of commercial photography and editorial photography.  Still a good amount of healthcare photography, but I also tried to make myself known as a Wisconsin agriculture photographer.  Maybe Judy getting those eight chickens brought the ag guy out in me.  Judy and I didn’t have the opportunity to travel as much as in years past so no tourism shots from Germany.  Our non-work time was spent being foster parents which in the big picture is probably more rewarding than a schnitzel and a pilsner at a quaint little gasthaus in Germany.  A couple shots that stand out to me as I look back (and that’s probably because I’m staring out at the falling snow as I write this), would be my trip to the ice caves of the Apostle Islands and a cold sunrise on the shores of Lake Michigan as I watched the Coast Guard’s Mobile Bay appear on the chilly horizon.  One of the moments of the year that was most memorable for me and for most Packers fans would be when Bart Starr and Brett Favre hugged at halftime of the Thanksgiving night Packers game.  Packers fans will remember it because the two legendary quarterbacks met for probably the last time on Lambeau Field and because of the battles with health issues that Starr went through to make that moment happen.  I’ll remember that night because it was the wettest, most miserable game I’ve ever shot.  I had to constantly battle to keep my gear dry enough to continue shooting.  At halftime, I could barely see through my eye glasses and my cameras, but luckily I was still happy with the moments I captured.  Last year my iPhone photos made a big push in to my best of gallery, but this year only one did – the shot of the two big stuffed bears in my truck as I drove them home from Costco as Christmas gifts for our foster kids.  And what best of blog of mine would be complete without a picture of our dog Chica? But this year Chica was joined by a few other dogs.  Other favorites are a shots of the founder of a no kill shelter sharing a loving moment with a pup and another from a vet clinic as a staff member comforts a dog as she performs a procedure on the animal.

Well, that’s about it.  I hope you enjoy looking at the photos and I better get out there and start on my best of for 2016.

Thanks for looking!

Photos From The Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings NFL Football Game • January 3rd, 2016 • Green Bay Sports Photographer

Well, the Green Bay Packers didn’t do so well on Sunday.  They lost to the Minnesota Viking 20-13 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin and in doing so let the NFC North title slip through their hands and will enter the NFL playoffs as the #5 NFC seeded wildcard.  It’s been an odd year covering the Packers.  The high production offensive units of the past got me accustomed to a bunch of touchdowns being scored and number of Lamabeau Laps to be shots.  Not so much this year.  I didn’t  even have a touchdown scored in my end zone by either team on Sunday.

So here is my take of the day.  A few fan features, quarterbacks Rodgers and Bridgewater chatting even before they got suited up, some okay action and then some celebration by Viking Adrian Peterson and dejection by Packers Aaron Rodgers to finish up the story of the day.

Thanks for looking!

Green Bay vs SDSU College Women’s Basketball • Green Bay Sports Photographer

Photographing sports is more then shooting sports action.  You need to look for emotion of the coaches and players.  The game I covered on Saturday night was a great game for those non action photos.  The game was between the Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team and the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits.  Green Bay and SDSU are two of the top mid major D1 womens teams in the nation so I knew this was going to be a great game.  Green Bay’s coach Kevin Borseth is a photographers dream for the emotion he shows during games.  The game came down to a failed last second shot with Green Bay coming out on top. The game was also special to me since I worked for a newspaper in South Dakota that covered the Jackrabbits and I’m an alumni of UW Green Bay and have covered the team for a total of about 25 years.

Here are some of my favorite action and non action photos from the game!
