Wisconsin Editorial Photographer and Wisconsin Commercial Photographer Mike Roemer’s blog.

Hi, I'm Mike Roemer, a commercial, corporate, industrial, agriculture and editorial photographer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

I've lived the photography business since childhood, first tagging along during my father's long newspaper photography career before ever carrying my own camera gear. My interest grew as I watched the fascinating process of my dad making black and white images appear while shaking trays of chemicals under the red lights of a developing room.

My professional career started with a ten-year stint as a newspaper photographer meeting tight deadlines, adapting to curve balls and making the famous and not-so-famous comfortable in front of my lens.

I returned to Green Bay in the mid-1990s to start my own business, and now regularly travel around the U.S. and internationally for my clients. I enjoy the creative challenge of combining unusual angles, lighting and lens options to produce the perfect commercial image.

I've won first place awards in Pictures of the Year International, National Press Photographers Best of Photojournalism and National Headliners, along with being a three-time winner in the Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest.

I love the variety of projects I get to work on, from healthcare organization and foundation annual reports, high-energy casino and gaming shoots, industrial projects at locations as diverse as cheese manufacturers and steel plants, to corporate culture assignments and documenting the Green Bay Packers.

Wisconsin Manufacturing Photographer • Real People In Real Situations •

I like to brand myself as a “real people in real situations” photographer.  A photo shoot I recently did for County Materials Corporation at a few of their Wisconsin sites was this type of project that I love to work on.  My assistant and I spent a couple of days visiting different sites, checking out various areas and manufacturing processes to create photos to feature their employees.  We went for an available light look and luckily had the type of lighting conditions that allowed us to get our shots without adding much additional lighting which freed up my assistant to shoot some b-roll video .

It’s not always easy to drop in on a person at work and make them comfortable with you taking their photo.  That can be even tougher when it’s a hard working person in a manufacturing situation, but I think over the years of shooting jobs like this I’ve become pretty good at winning people over with just a couple words and a friendly smile.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot.

Wisconsin Editorial Photographer • Photos From The President Trump Mosinee Rally

A few of my photos from covering the President Donald Trump Make American Great Again Rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin.  I was covering the event as a two person team for the Associated Press.  My responsibility was to backup the main photographer that travels with the President.  I needed to be stationary from a riser at the back of the venue to make sure we didn’t miss anything.  Being stationary like that limits the variety of photos you can get, but I was still happy with the images I came away with.

Wisconsin Sports Photographer • Green Bay Packers Photos • 49ers vs Packers

I feel bad for the Green Bay Packers fans with seats in the north end zone.  The Packers have continued to do most of their scoring in the south end zone.  Being that my shooting position for the Packers games is the north end zone I’m looking at most of the scoring action from a 100 yards away.  At times that works out okay like this Monday night when Davante Adams caught his game tying touchdown in the south end zone, but he was facing almost directly to the north so I had maybe a better shot then the photographers shooting from the south.  I also got a great shot of Kevin Kings interception in the north end that stopped a 49ers possible game winning drive.  Being in the north also worked out great for me when Mason Crosby celebrated his game winning field goal facing to the north.

I know the moment I ask the photographer I team up with if he’d like to switch end zones the Packers will start scoring in the north.

Here  are some of my favorite photos from the game!

Wisconsin Editorial Photographer • Photos From The Green Bay Packers Shut Out Win Over The Buffalo Bills.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the Green Bay Packers 22-0 shut out win over the Buffalo Bill on Sunday September 30, 2018 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin in an NFL football game.  As a photographer you’re looking for a little more action then took place yesterday and I guess I’m happy with the shots I got, but it was kind of a boring game. I was happy with a few shots I got before the game.  I really like the first shot, the one of the four Packers fans all alone in the stands  The lines, the negative space, how the shot is broken in two by the bright yellow stairs and how the fans are depicting true die hard Packers fans.  I also really like the shot of Green Bay Packers first round 2018 draft pick cornerback Jaire Alexander shooting a selfie with fans before the game.  Trust me it can get a little tough to find an interesting shot during warmup.  At the end of the game my responsibility is to get the two quarterbacks shaking hands and I got that shot, but I stayed with Rodgers after that for a few more minutes and got a shot of him sharing a moment with Buffalo Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander who he went to college with.

Green Bay Photographer • Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings Game Ends In A Tie

I’m not sure what to say about Sunday’s Green Bay Packers Minnesota Vikings NFL football game at Lambeau Field.  The game could have been won a number of times by each team, but with missed field goals from both teams it ended in a tie.  I’m hoping my photos tell the story of the game from the blocked punt for a touchdown to start the game to a baffled Packers Clay Matthews after getting called for roughing the passer that negated a possible game winning interception to a dejected Minnesota Vikings kicked after he missed a short field goal that could have won the game in the final seconds.

Hopefully my photos tell the story of the game.  Thanks for looking!
