This past Sunday my assignment for one of my higher education photography clients was to tell the story of convocation at St Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. During the convocation the school would welcome their 600 incoming freshman, the class of 2016, to the school. St Norbert has a beautiful campus and I’m always excited to shoot there. I was a little worried when I woke up Sunday morning to a driving rain, but it cleared off a few hours before things started allowing my assistant and I to set up four remote camera to capture stills, some video and even a time lapse to compliment what I would be shooting with the two cameras around my neck.
The event started with the Mass of the Holy Spirit before the 600 freshman walked in two lines as faculty dressed in their academic regalia lined the walkway to the lawn in front of Main Hall. St Norbert President Thomas Kunkel was waiting there to greet the students and to ring the Green Knight victory bell as the official start of a new academic year. Before heading off to to a barbecue along the Fox River with a band and fireworks the students came up to the bell to touch it for good luck at St Norbert.
I was happy with the photos I got on Sunday. I captured some real genuine moments and I think I truly did tell the story of the day.
Thanks for taking a look!
